MD1 is the diesel counterpart of MG1: the same generation of Bosch hardware, introduced in the same year (2016) to replace EDC17, with the same access constraints. It is the family found on recent European diesels, and the one where the question "OBD or bench?" comes up most often before anything is taken apart.
