EGR off

The EGR valve sends part of the exhaust gas back into the intake to lower combustion temperature, and with it nitrogen oxides. The ECU does not simply open it: it constantly computes a target recirculation rate from RPM, load and temperature, then corrects it in closed loop against measured air mass. That recycling is what, kilometre after kilometre, fouls the intake, the cooler and the throttle body.

Deactivation happens at map level: target rate zeroed, control loop neutralised, actuator drive stopped, position monitoring and related codes removed. That is not the same as unplugging the valve or fitting a blanking plate: in both of those cases the ECU keeps asking for a flow it never gets, stores its codes and can cut torque. The engine then works on its normal combustion model, without interference.

This file works on the software, not on the mechanics. An intake already caked with soot stays that way, and an engine that smokes or burns oil keeps doing it: deactivation stops the fouling from getting worse, it cleans nothing.

It does not fix a leaking EGR cooler or a worn-out turbo either — those are failures, not settings, and a file laid over them only hides the symptom. And it removes no obligation: on a vehicle used on public roads, type approval and the periodic inspection do not change because a strategy was neutralised in the ECU.
