MG1 is Bosch's generation of direct-injection petrol ECUs, fitted since the mid-2010s across most European manufacturers. On this generation, access is not always possible through the OBD port: depending on the model year and the make, reading goes through the bench, sometimes after an unlock. The announcements below state, tool by tool, what is open and by which route.
What the tools announce
Announcements from the tool vendors whose publications we relay, most recent first. Each line links to the original announcement with its date: an opening announced two years ago says nothing about the version you have installed.
Bench Normal Read and write for the Bosch ECS1049 ECU (TC399), with checksum correction and backup. It targets the Euro 7 BMW M S58 engine with « BMW M Ignite » technology: M3 (G80/G81) and M4 (G82/G83) from July 2026, M2 (G87) from August 2026 — replacing the earlier Bosch MG1CS049.
Not a new protocol but an improved OBD Unlock Patch for BMW DME8 ECUs (Bosch MG1CS024, MG1CS049 and MG1CS201, all TriCore TC298). It prevents the FSC-related DTCs (1B2904, 1F2102, sometimes 021204 / 21B210) raised when flashing modified files. Applying it requires a new Bench unlock, even on an ECU already unlocked with an earlier version.
A new Bench solution lets The Genius reach the contents of Bosch MDG1 units on BMW and MINI and carry out programming operations without opening the ECU. Supported units: Bosch MD1CP032 (TC299), MD1CS001 (TC298), MG1CS024 (TC298), MG1CS049 (TC298) and MG1CS201 (TC298).
Flex 8.3.0.0 extends Boot Glitch mode: BMW Bosch MG1CS049 (TC298) and Isuzu MD1CS089 (TC299) can be programmed in the workshop, no shipping, no RFT service.
